Evanescence rules, but if you want a really really good female vocalist band, try Lacuna Coil. You can download some of their mp3s from the bands section at:

I like Josh Groban. He has a sweet and angelic voice, and it's very good. My favorite song of his is Starry Starry Night.

Evanescence and maroon5 are my favourites

Post 13 by defectivedoll (Generic Zoner) on Monday, 10-May-2004 0:42:05

Some of their songs are okay.

Post 14 by krisme (Ancient Zoner) on Friday, 04-Jun-2004 19:09:55

Love Evanescence. Amy's voice is amazing. I actually have a friend who sounds like her. Maroon 5 is cool too, but their songs get annoying when overplayed. Any Coldplay fans out there?

Post 15 by melodica (Account disabled) on Monday, 07-Jun-2004 21:59:56

Yeah, I didn't know the song My Immortal had just pianos until I heard that version at the cafe and then I bought the CD and it has both versions on it. I hope they'll release another soon. Not as good as the high-class metal I listen to, but not bad for a pop knock off. Kate

Post 16 by Skyla (move over school!) on Thursday, 10-Jun-2004 9:06:10

Can't say I'm their biggest fan, though some of their songs are alright. Not to mention the girl is scary looking, hahaha. But I've heard better and worse.

Post 21 by GreenTurtle (Music is life. Love. Vitality.) on Wednesday, 29-Sep-2004 22:03:43

I recently bought the Evanessence CD. It rules! Amy has a very nice voice. It's high without being extremely girly. Later

Post 22 by wildebrew (We promised the world we'd tame it, what were we hoping for?) on Friday, 01-Oct-2004 13:12:34

Evanessence is good, I just wish they were not so darn depressing all the time (who has ever heard them write even a remotely happy song). Coldplay are awesome, kind of silly but great musicians, "Warning Sign" and "Spies" are unbelievably great tracks. Josh I can't stand but I understand why some people would like him, I just don't like that type of music and that's fine. Speaking of great singers, I'd have to say James Maynared from Tool/a Perfect Circle is totally awesome, such a unique voice. Let me recommend the new Green Day album (I thought it was fantastic when I first heard it and much better than I expected) and there's actuyally a good tune from "Good Charlotte" called "the World is Black" .. their new cd is ok, sort of sissy rockers but they can sing and some of their arrangements are very ambitious and cool. New Jimmy Eat World is similar, a little better, I absolutely love "Kill" .. track #4 on the cd.
cheers

Post 23 by DarkMetalChangeling (Account disabled) on Wednesday, 06-Oct-2004 18:02:08

Well .... they are ok, but to be honest Lacuna Coil are a much more advanced and talented version of the sound they try to achieve. I recomend them, you won't be disappointed!

I once sang with "my immortal", it's a wicked song.

Post 45 by SensuallyNaturallyLiving4Today (LivingLifeAndLovingItToo) on Thursday, 22-Feb-2007 10:00:47

I was prepared to dislike them because they were so popular with the pop set during high school, but despite my best efforts to resist I found my self really liking them. I especially like MyImortal and Wake me Up Inside. Strangely enough considering my classical preferences I liked the piano version of My Imortal, but I prefered the other instrumentation to the piano accompaniment. Oh, and I really wouldn't call Evenescence a combination of rock and classical. They are a pop/rock cross-over group with some classical music influences, but most music, pop, rock, heavy metal, jazz, new age etc all incorperate some elements of classical. Oh, and someone mentioned that their songs are all depressive, angry or anxty, and that's a very good point. They are good at what they do, but they are also a little limited. They have a very spacific nitch and they never really seem to stray far from that particular style, but for what they do and for who they are, I like them. I don't know much about Cold Play, and I really don't care for Maroon Five, although I will sing along when their music comes on the radio, but I absolutely love Josh Groban. He's sexy, passionate, sensative, emotional, has a beautiful voice and a terribly expressive and moving timbre. I love "Starry Starry Night," but "When You Say You Love Me" and "You're Still You" are my two favorit songs of his, with "The Prayer" running a close second. Some artists have great skill with their instrument or have wonderful voices, but substandard lyrics, songs or music over all. Others have deep and meaningful or amusing and witty lyrics or ketchy or moving songs but less musical ability. Josh Groban has a fare measure of both talent and great pieces which makes him unique and encredible, especially when compared with so many artists out there today. I'll have to check out Lacuna Coil as they are being so highly reccomended here. What nationality are they? Or, rather, what nationality is their name?

Post 46 by The Elemental Dragon (queen of dragons) on Tuesday, 06-Mar-2007 13:34:00

OK!!! Evanescence is probably the first rock group I've listened to. I have all 61 of their songs and as several people have stated I can match Amy to a tee. I swear I want her voice. I've heard some of her in studio songs on AOL Music. I've also heard that at her October concert in Boston The Crowd actually got to meet her. I wish I could have been there. that would be a dream come true.

Post 47 by HauntedReverie (doing the bad mango) on Tuesday, 06-Mar-2007 16:17:51

I really am obsessed with Evanescence, and I don't know why. Maybe it's because I found them and loved them during a very difficult point in my life. I have over 61; I have listen to the rain, and heart shaped box if you're interested in those sweet sacrafice. I also have a lot of their unreleased remixes.

Post 85 by HauntedReverie (doing the bad mango) on Friday, 16-May-2008 3:38:35

his name is Josh Hartzler, and the song Bring me to Life was written about him.
So I read, during one of their first conversations, when she was in an abusive relationship and all this, Hartzler asked her, "Are you happy?"
And so yeah, that's the story.

Post 86 by The Elemental Dragon (queen of dragons) on Friday, 16-May-2008 18:16:38

hm, I didn't know that. I wonder if there are any other stories about her songs like that. like, why did she writ what she wrote, I might go look that up.

Post 87 by blindndangerous (the blind and dangerous one) on Friday, 16-May-2008 18:22:56

I'd like to know y she wrote "tornikit".

Post 88 by The Elemental Dragon (queen of dragons) on Saturday, 17-May-2008 22:16:20

well, "Like You" was for her sister who died when she was really young, my friend said that "Haunted was about someone getting raped, but, I don't know how true that is. I wonder why she wrote "Only One" it's on her The Open Door CD.

Post 89 by HauntedReverie (doing the bad mango) on Saturday, 17-May-2008 23:10:26

haunted was from a short story ben moodey wrote. Amy wrote it based on his story.
